Open Spaces
It is a rare and wonderful thing to be able to venture into the wilderness today and run into no other people but your travel companions. Great summit, and fun adventure climb. Looking south from the summit you can clearly make out old fields decades old and unused, history written right on the land.

An Unknown Quantity
I snapped a picture of this peak a few weeks back and showed it to some friends as a possible climb. I then searched the Internet high and low for some information on the peak, but I was unable to find anything. This just added to the fun. We didn't know how we were going to scale the peak until we arrived at it's base and chose a route that fortunately allowed us to reach the top. It was awfully cool to be on a mountain w/o any route beta at all!

First Ascent in 5.5 Years!
The last name in the summit register (which was rusted shut) was signed on Aug 2002. Not many visitors to this picturesque and challenging peak. All the better. Weeds, Brian and I were all alone on Granite Peak on a beautiful, sunny, southern New Mexico day.
