hot day

I made it to the last ridge before the summit block at around 7700 ft. My partner was waiting below and I ran out of time to finish the route. Beautiful scramble up to that point and the rest looked so inviting!

South Face - West Ridge  Sucess!

This was spur of the moment. I went solo and traversed over the top coming down the treed ridge wrapping around in front. Great day.

Hawk during a Heat Wave  Sucess!

It was 30C in Jasper that day, went through 3 Litres on the way up and a little snow melt on the way down. Glad there was some water in Morro Canyon as the heat was getting to us. Some days are just too hot to climb mountains, this was one of them.

Route Climbed: South Face-West Ridge  Sucess!

Long way up for this one. Did the ascent solo and was the second party of the year on the summit, per the register. This was my first Canadian summit. I saw Kane's time as right on, finished the climb in 5.5 hours with at least 30 mins on the summit.

Route Climbed: South Face-West Ridge Date Climbed: August 13, 2005

I camped in Jasper with one of my daughters and her friend (Coco’s is the place for coffee and lunch!). We did Indian Ridge which is a treat for novices and then I did Hawk Mountain the next day. Except for the poor visibility (smoke haze) it was an uneventful, but fulfilling scramble. Kane’s 5-8 hour estimate is way off if you are used to utilizing his times as a mark (I normally beat his lower time by several hours but was spot on in this case). Add 2 hours to them. I imagine it was a transposition error. This is a 5000+ ascent and descent day along with a 40 minute hike on the trail just to get in the right position. Good footing on this one all around. Cheers!
