Huscarán Peak, Cordillera Blanca, Andes Mountains, Peru

Peru's highest peak, Huascarán (6,768MSL) in the Cordillera Blanca range at sunset as viewed from across the valley near Huarez. The lovely cloud cover over the summit made for ideal conditions to create "alpenglow," as famed mountaineer Galen Rowell, once described it. The Andes Mountain range are second highest in the world, after the Himalayas. This image was captured on the last evening of a six-day trek through these impressive snow-capped peaks. Photographed on Fuji Velvia 50 film with a Nikon FM2N, Nikkor 35-70mm f/2.8D zoom lens, May 2005. Photo © 2005 Frederic Hore, RemarkableImages.ca
