WapitiGreat photo. I never tire of looking at elk. They are majestical, strong and smart.

Re: WapitiThanks. He definitely had all of those attributes. He was with a young bull, maybe two years old (?), who he seemed to be protecting. I cropped the young one out of this shot, he was standing off to the right. I felt that this captured the majesty better.

The size of this elkbeats those I saw up at the Grand Canyon.
Hey, at least you captured a mountain in the
background, so I'm giving it 10/10 !

Re: The size of this elkThanks. This guy was big. It's nice that the Park Service put him in such a photogenic location!

Re: AwesomeThanks Bob. I've spent a lot of time in RMNP but this was quite the lucky find. I had to move down the trail a bit to get Longs into the frame, but the elk patiently stayed put, not moving off until I had snapped a few shots.

Great PhotographThis is an amazing shot. I love how you were able to catch Longs in the background.

Re: Great PhotographThanks, it was a lucky deal. My friend was starting to take pictures as we were coming down on to the elk, with just some trees and distant valley in the background. I saw the situation and moved down farther and off to the side before shooting, so I could include Longs.

A Dynamic Duo!I'm not sure which is better, the elk or the shot of Longs. Incredible Pic!

Re: A Dynamic Duo!Thanks for your comment! It was a lucky encounter for sure. I had to scramble into the right position standing on some rocks, but the elk cooperated by not moving off until I squeezed off a couple of shots.

Re: is he posingThanks Liba. Yes, he was posing for me! I tried to get him to do a Virabhadrasana III like your profile photo, but he would have none of it.
