Jackstraw Mountain, as seen from the early portion of the north slope hike to Mount Ida. It's too bad there is no Summitpost page for Jackstraw, as it looks like an interesting mountain, if diminutive. It is my opinion that the gulch between Jackstraw and Mount Ida offers the only reasonable bail zone if a hiker were to be caught in a sudden thunderstorm. The cost would be something like 600 feet of re-climb later. However, there are trees down there, and the descent to the gulch looks doable in some places along the Mount Ida trail.
