Junction high up on the Großer Moosstock, where the trails from Rein and from Sand in Taufers meet

I ascended the route from Rein in Taufers, following the SSE ridge, and with decent visibility it's hard to get lost on the way up. There are not all that many cairns, so off and on I got a bit off route as I hiked and scrambled my way up the ridge, but the summit was clearly in sight so that didn't matter. And every so often I found a cairn or paint mark again. Near the summit, the SSE and SW ridges come together. At this junction it's straight up for a few meters, but the scrambling is easy. Going up, these paint marks hardly matter. But if you aim to descend the SSE ridge towards Rein, then this is a key point. If you miss the turnoff, you'll probably end up descending the clearly marked route following the SW ridge route towards Sand in Taufers, which is the normal route, or, worse, you could end up somewhere off route altogether. 27 July 2014.
