Thanks so much Tomek. The page took a lot of work, but worth it if people like you appreciate it!

Merry Christmas to you.

Thanks for stopping by and for the vote, Lolli. This was really an amazing place, unique on the planet. Of course many places can justifiably claim that. Still, I feel lucky to have trekked out here. Glad you enjoyed the page.

Take care, Nelson

Re: Glory of India

Thanks! Yes, it is an astounding mountain, rising abruptly out of steamy cloud forests, surrounded by all those other elegant peaks. I've not seen Denali yet, hopefully some day.

I would give

all my "Mountain & Rock" pages for one like this.
It makes me want to forget about my bad knees and go there.
Happy climbing,
Marc

Re: I would give

Thanks much. It's an amazing place. We had a woman in the group who had bad knees and was forced to turn back, but also a 62 year old guy who made it. He was a quiet sort of guy, but on the next to last day as we were slogging up yet another gigantic hillside he suddenly shouts out, "God, I hate these fucking steps!". Maybe his knees felt it too.

1990 ascent from the south

Very nice page.

One bit of history missing from the timeline is that Mark Udall, presently the Senior US Senator from Colorado, climbed Kanchenjunga on May 15th, 1990. His partner, Rob Gustke, stopped some distance from the top, and Udall continued on to the summit solo. Another summit attempt a few days later by Frank Coffey ended at high camp with the arrival of the monsoon. Overnight, the daytime temperature rose 10-15 degrees, transforming the route down into a soggy, dangerous ordeal.
