Herbert Maeder, the Swiss mountain photographer, tells in his book "Gipfel und Grate" ("Summits and Ridges"), published in 1980, about a summit register on the Swiss peak named Vorder Selbsanft or Hauserhorn in the Glarus Alps with entries dating back as far as 1901!! The summit register - I have no idea if it still is up there, maybe they've replaced it by now, but apparently it was up there in the late seventies still - was one issued by the Karl Knecht & Cie. Edition in Bern in 1899!

Wow!And I thought the register I found on top of UN13,555 (Sangre de Cristo) was old at 1974!
This is a genuine piece of mountaineering history.
