North and Middle  Sucess!

These two peaks are absolutely stunning. I think this one takes #1 in favorite winter climbs. The snow was very solid and grippy below treeline which helped with the bushwacking which actually was not that bad. The higher snow was consolidated and fairly easy to walk on. The final part of the ridge going up North was a bit icy. And the crux to go up Middle was kinda dicey. A quick snow test will give you an idea if it is safe or not. Do these on a clear day.

North and Middle Chiwaukum (approched from White Pine)  Sucess!

The approach is a couple miles and then it shoots up steeply. Very difficult even after training for it and knowing what was comming from a previous attempt. This was the second attempt in less than a month. Sort of a last minute decision. Stunning Panorama of Alpine Lakes Wilderness and Glacier Peak Wilderness and their surrounding peaks. Perfect snow, perfect weather. We had to climb North Chiwaukum to get to Middle C because of possible avalanche danger so it added about 500 feet to our elevation gain for the round-trip.

North and Middle Chiwaukum  Sucess!

These peaks are impressive in winter. The standard route was long and challenging but the views from each summit made it worth our effort. One of the best winter climbs I've ever done.
