May 28 attempt and May 29 success
Attempted Dana on 5/28/22. Heavy cloud cover all day with high winds, snow, rain and ice covered hard packed snow fields forced me to bail around 11,800 ft.
Went back the next day 5/29/22 and conditions were perfect. Summit took 3.5 hours. Conditions were excellent except a bit windy at the top. View of Mono lake and surrounding partially snow covered peaks made it a spectacular climb. Air quality excellent. Memorable and enjoyable day. Dana is a great peak!

Mount Dana Fun
Successful struggle up the mountain. Hiked it via the normal route with my wife, wearing probably about a 35lb pack for training. Very casual pace on the ascent, lunch break etc, took about 3 hours going up. The scree gets really sketch about .75 miles out, where it felt more secure to put away the hiking poles and use the occasional handhold.
View at the summit is a stunner for sure. Hung out there for a bit, had some food, then scrambled down. Even being pretty fit and confident the footing is unpredictable, felt on my butt once.
Storms come in fast, had a small hail/rain/thunderstorm come out of nowhere and chilled my hands pretty bad, but it went away quickly as well.
Great hike, not for faint of heart. Didn't really feel altitude issue until about 12500 where I had to do some bigger focus on breathing, had a very small intermittent headache at the top. Obviously hiking with a lighter pack would have been way easier, but where's the fun in that?

Great summit day
Great solo climb to the top. My first time on this mountain. Really scenic peak.
One of the best views I've seen anywhere. Real bang for the buck. Parked at Tioga Pass just outside the park, found trail and followed it all the way. Lots of marmots.
Incredibly beautiful day for a hike from Tioga Pass!
Summited for my first time with my 18 yo son Tzander and friend Keven Hempel.
Sunny and mid-50s for the ascent, partly cloudy with a few rain drops descending but absolutely perfect weather for a climb of this magnitude. While a Class II it has significant elevation gain and loss, about 6200 feet in all (3100 each way).
I have only seen all of Mono Lake from an commercial jet until now, awesome! We saw North Peak (summited 9/30/18) and Dunderburg (summited 7/1/20) and Potato Peak (summited twice). Now for Conness and Lyell to bag YNP's 1,2 and 3 HPs.
Met some VERY cool people both on the trail and summit.
Peace, stay safe and happy trails.

Solo to the top!
Alpine start from Tioga Lake, up the left side of the bluff onto the saddle. I followed the ridge line up to the base of the summit incline and then veered to the right to stay away from any cornice danger till I reached the summit. From the saddle to the summit winds were high, ~45mph, and visibility was poor, ranging from 70ft on the saddle to 20/25ft at the summit. Descent was made via the west flank to about 12,000, then traversing back to the saddle and following the summit trail back to the tree line .

Dana Couloir Ski
Not great snow coverage on ascent of the NW slope, but Dana Couloir was an incredible ski; better snow than 2 years ago! Lousy exit of Glacier Cyn due to low coverage, but sure worth the trip!

Mount Dana, Yosemite national park
I started out wanting to get a 13,000 foot summit under my belt. We set out and started our hike up this unassuming mountain. As we ascended the terrain changed 4 times until we reached the summit. The bouldering was a real workout and at times seemed to go for on for ever . The view up the mountain seemed to just go on and on, until you see just blue sky. At that point you realize you are a few steps away from a glorious view of Mono Lake and the mountain ranges in the high Sierras. Going down was a sensation to behold. Mapping your next step as you negotiate the boulders and loose rocks. This is a hike that will use all your skills.

A farewell to summer
Friday's Indian summer was replaced by clear but cold and windy conditions on Sunday. Views were spectacular in every direction, and there was even an island of calm and warmth on the summit's east side. So close to Tioga Road but so far removed from the world.

Fun Half Day Hike
Fun half day hike up and down to a great vista over eastern Yosemite and the Mono Lake basin. Thankfully my friend pressured me into going; if I had my way I would've stayed sleeping in the car and missed out on a rewarding summit. Pretty steep trail, but non-technical, will still gas your lungs though.
