This was my 7th climb of Democrat. It was in combination with Lincoln. The weather didn't allow a climb of Bross.

First time
This was my first climb of Democrat. Each climb of Democrat was from Kite Lake and most were climbs of 2 or 3 of the Lincoln, Democrat & Bross group.

Kite Lake Start
My best friend and I did our usual type trip from Oklahoma. Drive all night, sleep a couple of hours, go for the summit. We had never done more than one 14er on any trip but we decided to give this a whirl. Doing Democrat was the most difficult, we had not time to adjust to the altitude difference from Oklahoma to Colorado so we both felt queezy. Arriving at the summit was great! Completed Cameron, Linclon and Bross glissaded down the face of Bross. Great way to finish. Easy descent. All of these four peaks were done before these were closed recently.

Route: Kite Lake
Not all that fun hungover with only 6 hours of sleep in 2 days. I'm assuming that made it very good training for bigger mountains. But you know what they say about people that assume.

4 peak day
Started at Kite Lake, hiked up to Democrat, traversed over the Cameron, then Lincoln and finally Bross before coming down the western side of Bross back to Kite Lake. If you miss the trail coming down Bross it is a scree field that isn't much fun to come down. Even my Golden Retriever didn't care for that. Otherwise it was a great day.

A great hike for both me and my dog. However, the descent down bross was a sub-par escapade

#6
Climbed from Kite Lake. A steep start, but ended with great views from the summit. Perfect Day for climbing.
we tackled this one from the west without much knowing what the established routes were. We found a couloir to take us to the south ridge and walked on up. COLD day. we finished out the other three 14ers on the same days and slept very well that night.

Climbed with Boy Scout Troop. Democrat was enough for them. Weather was starting up anyhow. My son's 9th 14er.

Democrat
After summitting Democrat we were half way up Cameron when I looked at my hands to see them quite swollen. A little embarrassing, but didn't know what was going on. Decided to quit for the day. A passing hiker told me to use treking poles and I've never had the problem since!

Home Sweet Home
Parked passenger car at Sweet Home Mine on Kite Lake road and walked the road. Left Kite Lake at 7AM and on summit in 2-one-half hours. Sound of thunder and some snow pellets prevented me from doing Lincoln-Bross. Saved those 2 for next year.
