"As an adolescent I aspired to lasting fame, I craved factual certainty, and I thirsted for a meaningful vision of human life - so I became a scientist. This is like becoming an archbishop so you can meet girls."

Ida TrailWe rented bikes on the island and cruised over to the ida trail near four corners. It was a quick hike up to the summit from there. Beautiful picture day. My favorite part was the ferry ride back to Tiburon. We were attacked by a pirate sailboat that actually fired a few cannon rounds in our direction :)

Great dayNice hike on a pretty day. Everyone else in San Fran thought so too--the place got packed!
PRO TIP: For pretty weekend days, Take the first ferry and stay ahead of everyone. Won't do much for the crowd out on the summit, but the hike will be quieter.

Island ParadiseTook ferry to Ayala Cove, hiked around to Battery Wallace to set up camp, then took sampler route:
Battery Drew / Nike Missile Site / Fort McDowell / U.S. Immigration Station / doubled back to Ida Trail / Livermore summit / back down to camp.
Great to see all the island and we took our time exploring the sites. Exquisite campsite and views from daylight and well past sunset.

Quick TripCaught the 11 AM ferry over, took the North Ridge trail up and when I realized I had a shot to get back down in time to make the return trip on the 12:20 return ferry I jogged all the way down. RT time slightly under 1 hour, probably should have stayed longer to get more bang for the buck but I had many other peaks to bag in Marin later on in the day.

North RidgeHave explored the island since before it was a park, making the run up to the top countless times, and the experience each time is always different. I've been soaked in a rain storm, blown off the top, and drenched in sweat like you'd get on a summer day in Death Valley, and I've loved every minute.

Beautiful Bay ViewIt was a warm day, maybe about 80F, and there was a guy hiking around the island wearing a fully loaded 80L pack, thermal layers, and plastic mountaineering boots. Looked like he was ready for a heat stroke by the time he arrived at the summit.

Northridge TrailTook the kids out to Angel Island on a blustery day. Not great views that day, but much better than we found in San Francisco a few hours earlier. Trip Report

Sunset TrailWe caught the packed out 11 am ferry out of Tiburon running late. It landed at Ayala Cove at 11:30. Wasting no time up the Sunset Trail then hustled back cutting switchbacks and some bushwhacking to catch the 1:20 ferry back to Tiburon. Too short to really groove on the island. Will make sure to have more time next trip.
