Day hike from Lodgepole. A little bushwhacking to get onto the slabs. Some route finding past the lake. There was a good use trail from the upper lake where I stopped to get water. Sandy and some class 2 on the final slope. Fantastic views from the top. Went down a different part of the slabs and dealt with gnats before getting back to the trail.

Gorgeous Views on Top of Mt. Silliman
Overall, the hike is not terrible, however the mosquitos are deadly. We were covered in bites by the time we arrived at the slabs. Still, it is a gorgeous climb and the final ridge is beautiful.

Dayhike
Dayhike from Lodgepole Campground with Sean Casserly and Mike Toffey. We slept the night before at 7k, but whatever acclimation that earned me was not noticed. A beautiful route over trail, use trails, granite slabs, and then large talus before you summit. The views north to Yose, east to the Great Western Divide, and south towards the Kaweahs and Mineral King area is spectacular and not seen until the highpoint of the hike. This one will make you work for the view and it is worth it. Snowpack was dismal for May 1st, we brought axes and crampons that stayed in the bag.
Pleasant hike from Lodgepole, amazing views on top!

Winter ascent, summer conditions
Solo trip up the standard route via Silliman Creek drainage. Overnight at Lake Silliman before summiting. Fun route and awesome views. But CA drought continues, so there was almost no snow. Just some really cold nights. Posting a trip report with more deets.

From Lodgepole
Backpacked up to Silliman Lake on the 10th, then up to the top and return on the 11th. Use trail along Silliman Creek was fairly decent and the granite slabs area leading up to the lake were quite scenic. Overnight low- 33 degrees. No snow on the entire route.

Lodgepole dayhike
Followed the Twin Lakes trail until the split right before the stream crossing, from there the use trail is well defined until just before the slabs o' fun. The slabs were the highlight of the day, leading up to Silliman Lake where there were a couple of tents set up by campers. From there I found a use trail leading up the left side of Silliman, it faded quickly and I stayed left, eventually getting into some larger boulders which were fun and easily avoided by heading right where a use trail reappeared. Big wow factor when you set foot on the summit and the views open up.

From Silliman Lake
Took advantage of the dry winter to get this landmark peak via an overnight backpack on Thanksgiving weekend. Mostly dry hike-in, base camp at Silliman Lake on snow, summited then hiked out the same day. Fantastic views from the summit.

Dayhike from bay area
Did this as a day-hike from San Jose, with son Stephen and his friend Kyle -- the hike plus nine hours of driving made for a long day but they didn't want to camp. Nice hike except for pesky mosquitoes from 8K to 10K'.
Attempted this a few years ago but was foiled by a freak early-summer snowstorm -- got to the friction granite but it was covered by a thin layer of melting snow so decided to return another day.
