A surprisingly tricky traverse. 3rd class to get through a giant block maze, then 4th class on the NW side of the headwall after that. Day 4 of a 7-day backpack. Trip report.

Long!
I found the first 11 miles to Bearpaw Meadow from Crescent Meadow to be a bit boring but the next 10 to Kaweah Gap were some of the most stunning I had ever seen. Went up the south ridge of Stewart (from 11400 feet) the first day and then to camp in Nine Lakes Basin. The next morning up Eagle Scout and then out.

HST distraction
Climbed Stewert from the lake as a short detour from our High Sierra Trail trip. Nice views.

From Kaweah Gap
Had to bail on the west ridge Black Kaweah the previous day. From Kaweah gap on the way back out.

S ridge up and SE slopes down
Quite a long ridge walk to the base of Stewart but a fun snow climb up to the summit and a fast and fun boot ski down to the north slopes of lake 10,440. Watch out of for that last step on the summit block, it's a bit airy on the north side.

SW Chute
Was hoping to get to Lion Rock as well, but it was not to be. 19.5hrs just for Stewart - Ugh! Trip Report
After bivying near Precipice lake I climbed Stewart and Eagle Scout while my more experienced partners climbed Black Kaweah's west ridge. Both were a great intro to Sierra scrambling.

Dayhike with Eagle Scout Peak from Crescent Meadow. Long day, but great views almost the whole way. Stewart's summit block was trickier than expected--short, but good fun!

Winter climb in summer conditionsFormally winter ascent. In reality, only needed snowshoes above Hamilton Lakes.
