Beginning with the death of Frederick Strickland in 1849 and ending with the death of Sarah Nicholson in 1994 twenty-two tales of tragedy are recounted in this rather unusual volume. Written by a local author who grew up spending summers in view of Mount Washington readers soon become familiar with the local history and multiple dangers of hiking in the different seasons in the Presidential Range. While some deaths were caused by absurdity e.g climbing in shorts without any hat or jacket etc. others died merely feet away from huts.
