Product Description

The Crown Jewel of Canadian Rockies Traditional Climbing

Canadian rock climbing was born on the big flat face of Yamnuska. For more than 50 years aspiring youth and grizzled veterans have been putting up new routes on the south-facing slab that faces the sun and attracts climbers every month of the year. In the first-ever climbing guide to the "Yam," you will find 115 routes described in detail and accompanied by maps and photographs.

Yamnuska holds a special place in the hearts of people who seek adventure. Climbs range in grade from 5.5 through 5.12, and styles encompass the very bold to the more conservative. The cliff is steeped in history. There is a spiritual nature that is hard to explain, but many climbers have shared this feeling after a day scaling her lofty heights. Partnerships develop between friends and the mountain that can last a lifetime.

Author

Andy Genereux experienced rock climbing for the first time on Mount Yamnuska during an early spring snowstorm in 1975. This small adventure would eventually lead to a 30-year climbing career, with extensive involvement in new route exploration throughout the Canadian Rockies. Over this period he has become a leading proponent of the local climbing scene. Andy has established well over 500 climbs, including 20-plus on Yamnuska. Throughout his career he has returned time and again to this regal cliff to scale her many great routes.

Yamnuska Rock
I have personally climbed over 20 routes on Yamnuska (Yam). Most of those have been under the direction of Bow Valley Rock. Andy's book is quite refreshing in terms of detail route descriptions. Granted that this book only includes the Yamnuska routes versus Bow Valley Rock covers the entire Bow Valley. Being a first edition book in 2006, it is as up to date as any I have ever utilized. Super detail, topos and descriptions. Worth the purchase even if you only plan one two routes. You will be back for more, I promise.
