route: refugio viadós
Superb ascent from Viadós, despite both a thick cold developing the night before in the hut. But in the fresh air I stopped coughing and sneezing and felt great.
The GR11 up to the Col de Eriste is a great path - the worst (for me) bit was the section above the point where the path joins a path to the ibones). It was steep and loose earth, very slippery. Once we'd got past that bit, the basin at the base of the slope towards the col is my kind of terrain - easy rock, various paths zig-zag up, passing one patch of snow.
At the col, we barely stopped and head off onto the crest directly from the col. 20m up and it became horrid! Looking down towards our approach ascent, I saw a vague path in the scree. We read our route descriptions again and it said you can avoid the first crest by taking this/A path from there.
We went down, looking for this path, but found nothing but steep and very loose scree and finally (the cold getting the better of us - R, too, had been suffering from a cold all week)we gave up.
It is said to be 40m to the summit, but we couldn't fine a clear or straighforward route.
Back in the hut, one of the girls working there told us that, yes, the crest is complicated (though the route is given F) and the path we went looking for is vague...
I am left completely bemused. All I had read prior to doing this peak is that it was straightforward. No one writes about doing the crest or the path.. just say it is .. easy from the col. Well I have some experience but maybe I am getting too old or too clumsy, because it wasn't clear to me.
This has not been a great TRESMIL year for us, but it was super to be in this wild environment yesterday and Forqueta is still there to do again next time.

What a wonderful day
Rafa has said (once again!) everything. I also enjoyed that wonderful day, climbing my fourth three-thousander in 2008. There aren't enough words to describe it.

Nice day
Spectacullar day with blue sky and wonderfull panorama from the summit. We climbed from Parking of Espigantosa (1500m) in about 5h across the marvelous Ibon de Llardaneta. Only one people more in the mountain this day with a lot of people on the summit of Posets. Perfect return to the Pyrenees after some weeks in Africa.
