big dead treeAs we sat that a few weeks ago, we noticed that there is not much holding that big dead tree there anymore. I wonder how long it will still be there.

Re: big dead treeI know - it seems to be barely holding on. I'm sure it USED to be a great belay anchor but no longer - we had to be satisfied with a big cam and a small nut (both pretty questionable). Great vantage point though!

Re: big dead treeYeah, I think we had 4 pieces in there. One sling about head height on a horn and 3 in the crack/flake to the right. I took a few pics there as well. Sounds like you had a great climb. How was the rope drag on pitch 3, or, did you avoid it pretty well?

Re: big dead treeBrian,
Definitely a fun climb close to home. Used all triple length slings on pro below the roofs on pitch 3. There was still some considerable rope drag but not too bad (had it worse on for ex. West Face Variation, Monkey Face standard pitch 2 = horrendous drag!!!).

Re: big dead treeI remember that pitch on Monkey Face well. I was being belayed up on one rope, pulling up another for Tasha trailing me and then the toprope got stuck in a crack so they lowered another one down to me so I could get to the crack and loosen the first one. 3 ropes on me and all around that nasty slabby overhang to the right. Now THAT was some fun rope drag! ;- )
