LaPlata from Winfield
Started around 8, passed groups from Texas, Ohio and Louisiana on the way to the summit. Summited around 11, and spent just enough time to sign the register and take a couple of pictures. The weather over Elbert wasn't looking good and looked like it could head my way, so back down I went. Only took 1 1/2 hours to get back down.

Climbed from Winfield leaving at 5am, on top at 11:30am. Met Wallis Cramond on top and we hiked down together. I was sure I had found a climbing partner. Unfortunately Wally sufferd a heart atack in 1997 while he was hiking Mt. Antero. Even with the risks involved the mountain "thing" is still worth it.
Was camped down near Winfield and decided to hike this one morning. Began about 6 AM and summited at about 10 AM or so. I was the only person on the trail all day. Great views.

late spring
My daughter and I chose this route over the "standars" NW ridge route, seeking isolation and a quick climb. Did it at a leisurely pace and took 9 hours. Only saw two other people the entire day. Good weather, nice views.
