Spring Beauty

Spring Beauty

The Spring beauty (Claytonica virginica) is a staple of spring hiking in the Smokies. They're abundant in March and April when I've been there, both as individual blossoms and as fields scattered through the forest floor. These are from the high end of the Ramsay Cascades Trail, March 2011.
