NW Slope
A good workout for folks as myself coming up same day from sea level. Over 3,000 vert in a relatively short distance. Once on plateau, just straight up the stepping stones. Truly a great big pile of rocks. Patches of snow remaining at the top this March. Saw one other person while on the mountain, he coming down, me going up. At the point we passed, we were on the rock pile, 1/4 mile apart, so waved, shouted, and were on our respective ways.

Best "use trail" I've ever hiked
I actually appreciated the copious short switchbacks, no sense wasting time getting up this rock pile...
At first I didn't believe I was on the summit so soon. I thought I must be on a false summit, but clearly I was on the highest point in the area. The summit benchmark helped convince me, too.
This is the easiest way to get to the top of Dana. The trail is only 3 miles with the best part down in the meadow surrounded by vegetation. Once above that, the landscape is baren and unexciting until reaching the summit.

Dana
After some trouble finding a camping spot near the pass, climbed Dana from the Tioga Pass gate. Pretty windy at the top but great views! First 13'er!!

Hike
A nice half day hike with Katie and Jay. Met backcountry skiers running Solstice and Dana Couloirs. Trail obscured by snow in places but not much of a problem.
This was the first mountain I hiked up in California. I've done it many times since.

Sold on snow
The snow was beautiful in June this year. I probably would not do the NW slope again if there was not snow on it. Hiking through that rock is so much more cumbersum that on the snow. Plus you get to glissade, well kind of.

Easier than I guessed
Only because of a 30 pound pack and 18 inches of snow made it a little rough. No pack and no snow would have been a breeze.

Dana Traverse
Great hike up the Northwest Slope on a sunny day with some snowcover, summiting to no wind, and then skidding down the scree/talus of the South Slope. Best part was that we had the whole mountain to ourselves.

Walk-up
Casual walk-up from Tioga Pass. A good half of the route was snow covered; it was rather enjoyable and easy to hike up in trail runners. While on the summit, we took an hour long power nap. Nice views and weather! As I wrote in the summit register, this is one of the better choss piles in the High Sierra.

Great Warmup Hike
Took standard route up Dana. Fantasic trail condition and views, a little less crowded than the valley. Some true YDS class 2 leading to the summit but never hard.
