Great hike
This had been on my to do list for quite a while. It was nice to get it on a really nice weather day. It was 117 in the Valley but we stayed at Mahogany Flat and were treated to a great star show and nice temps. I went up the service road to get Rogers first and picked off Bennett on the way out. I was the only one on the peak which seemed strange since it is so popular.

From Charcoal Kilns
With partner Dave McLaughlin. Camped near Mahogany Flat. Lots of snow/ice on upper 1500 feet. Very cold windy and clear- impressive extensive view from top.

Telescope Peak
From Mahogany Campground. I thought this was a great hike. It was a clear day and we had an expansive view from the summit.

Thanksgiving hike
We spend every thanksgiving in death valley, but due to the lack of space in the car we've always drawn the line at hauling along snow and ice gear. Every year we'd eye Telescope but snow would keep us from the hike we both really longed to do. 2005 was our year - the path to the summit was completely clear in late November, and although it was in the teens and windy as heck we jumped at the opportunities and hiked it. Incredible views, I need to get back there in conditions I can enjoy them instead of hunched over against the wind and cold.

Cold and Windy!
On a recent through-hike of the Panamints from Aguereberry Point to Ballarat, my companion and I climbed Telescope Peak from Mahogany Flat. While it was extremely cold and windy, with clouds swirling about the summit for most of the morning and afternoon, snow was not an issue in terms of the climb. While snow is on the peak, it is mostly avoidable and where you do walk on it, it's not on steep or difficult terrain.

Amazing View!
Went up via the service road to Roger's Pk, descended onto the main trail and continued to Telescope Pk, then went up and over Bennett Pk on the way back. This route made for a fantastic climb.

Thanksgiving Weekend
The first of many Thanksgiving weekends I'd start spending driving around the deserts of CA. Planned to camp on the summit, but very strong wind and freezing temperatures forced us to camp at the saddle before the final push. Luckily we found a spot just big enough for a tent completely out of the wind with a great view into the valley, was still one of the coldest nights I've ever spent out.

Telescope from Charcoal Kilns
Gate was closed at Charcoal Kilns due to snow. We snowshoed up Bennett, then Telescope, then Rogers on the way back. We went down the north side of Rogers and glissaded down a gully back to the road and walked the rest of the way back to the Charcoal Kilns. Good day, great views of Spring Mountains and Sierra Nevada. Perfect!

Post hole trek
Knee high to waist high snow for most of the trip, but successful nevertheless. Was wishing I had my skis, but never would have expected this much snow.

Was little hazy
Great hike, was little hazy! Could not see Mt. Whitney, as I was hoping for. Take plenty of water and leave some on the summit if you have extra.
Nice group hike from Mahogany Flats. Maybe Shorty's Well someday, if I've got a hot poker being threatened to be stuck in my eye.

"4x4" road? Hah! I got the Celica up that thing with no further damage. Fun summit register, with a few hardy souls who did it from Shorty's Wells.

Sweet deliciousness
The perfect storm of good weather, good friends and an all around good day! Tagged with four first timers and it was FANTASTIC to see it through their eyes and have them be in such good spirits. Hopefully I flipped a switch in a couple of them. Super mega good day!!
Nice 14-mi. dayhike! It was a little windy for us, but still an enjoyable hike! Great views & even a summit sign to hold up for our pictures, was in the amo-box.
