Took the path to south of lake and just went through the trees up to the rock. Found path from there. Great clear views. We took our exchange student from Sweden with us and she loved the summit. Very worthwhile hike. Was planning to do Watkins after but the rest of my group was done, oh well.

NW Buttress
Fun solo on a cloudless day. Beautiful clean white granite and excellent views !
For the finish I took the rightmost "loose 4th class" variation as per supertopo, since it ended closer to the summit. Nice half-day excursion, though next time I think I'll just drop down the ridge to the trail instead of thrashing down through the boulders & such.

Great Simul-climb
Led/simul-climbed the NW Buttress with Chris Terry while Dave Millar and Joel Bernier soloed it beside us. The climbing was easier than expected. Clean, fun rock, easy pro, and easy routefinding. The 5.7 direct finish was also very fun and secure climbing.
Chris and I descended the SW Ridge, but took a shortcut descent off of the ridge somewhere between the standard route and the West Face route.
really fun cruiser as a wind down day after whitney east butt.
Everything i hoped it would be after gazing at it often from across the lake.

1972 Climb
Easily climbed from the south plateau after working at Sunrise High Sierra Camp all summer (with Susan Stubblefield). Then traversed to Tresidder Peak and back to Sunrise to close up camp for the winter.

Awesome!Soloed this climb about a year ago. Great climb! Would not recommend a solo unless you feel comfortable on at LEAST 5.7 trad leads. Be smart.
