Route Climbed: Liconi - Sapin traverse Date Climbed: 2 August 1975  Sucess!

I promised myself I would never post on SP stuff related to my own climbs - but I can't miss this one, if only for sentimental resons (Testa di Liconi dominates my home on Courmayeur). I climbed it first in 1975, at the ripe age of 14, along with my brother, a bunch of friends and my dad. The climb (really a very strenous hike) left an indelebile memory in my mind, expecially the magical atmosphere of the shores of Lake Liconi (that could make a fantastic double for the Mirrorlake in Tolkien's Lord Of The Ring!), and the moment we reached the Col Liconi saddle, and the entire MB chain came into view in all his glory. The weather was stormy, but this only added to the whole experience. The summit itself was lonely and beautiful, with a 360 view on the entire north western alps. Believe me, not even the view from the summit of MB is so dramatic.

The descent was also memorable, expecially the 1000 mts dive into the Sapin vallety. When we reached Courmayeur in the evening, our legs were basically moving by themselves. As a friend summarised it: "Mom, if there's no brass band waiting for us down there, I'm not coming anymore!!"
