Re: Fantastic glacier!Ciao Eric,
i think you know this is one of the alpine glaciers which had suffered the greatest retirement...but it's still magnificent!
Many thanks my friend and my best greets.

Re: Fantastic glacier!Oh my - I did the route in august 1999 and it was nearly all snow then! In that year huge transportation sleds from WW 1 melted out of Forno glacier; they just stood there embarrassingly useless on the ice. Maybe I have some digitized pics to attach them to your route page.
Cheers, Michael

Re: Fantastic glacier!Unfortunately I did not digitize these pics - they are all in a normal, non-digital paper - album.....Actually I have too much work to do this, sorry.

Re: Fantastic glacier! It doesn't mean, thank you...I know how much time is required to scan the non-digital pictures!
All the best.

Fantastic GlacierI happened on to this photo by accident. In 2005 my son and I took a day hike to Rifugio Pizzini. On the way back we traveled cross country and had excellent views of Forni Glacier. Looking up at the glacier we got photos that showed how much it had receded in recent years.

Re: Fantastic GlacierThanks!
Unfortunately the alpine glaciers, as well as those in most of the mountain ranges of the world, are retreating. The station of the Forni glacier (AWS UNIMI) is the only one on the southern side of the Alps inserted in WMO (World Meteorological Organization), the network for monitoring 40 glaciers around the world.
Best regards.
