There are actually two Val Ferrets,...
...one in Italy and one in Switzerland, linked together by the Grand and Petit Col de Ferret, the Tête de Ferret acting as a sort of a border-marking stone. Both of them outline the Mont Blanc massif to the east and south east. The photos shown here were all taken in the Swiss Val Ferret, which starts in Orsières on 900 meters height and rises over a length of about ten kilometers to La Fouly-Ferret on 1700 meters. This valley is of great beauty and very preserved - there is but one very modest ski-lift rising fourhundred meters up the east slope from La Fouly. The entire rest is hiker's paradise - and one is at the foot of grand Mont Blanc massif peaks such as Mont Dolent, Le Tour Noir, Aiguille de l'A Neuve, Aiguille de l'Amône (all four of these are situated on the border between Switzerland and France), Grande Lui, Grand Darrey, Le Portalet and many others. The area around the Cols de Ferret is very popular among cross-country skiers and ski hikers.
