Re: Beautiful

We shouldn't have either, however we thought that there'd be no more early August storms after the one that postponed our trip by two days, so we only carried five days of food, and we had to move on. Of course we didn't know the weather would turn so bad later in the day - it was perfect in the morning!

Perfect

Wish I'd shot this. We had the same weather here, including the later deterioration. Traversed from our camp (maybe the site is visible under the col distant), swam a bit in the sunshine, then climbed and traversed the glacier. Got hit by a thunderstorm while ascending the glacier, donned rain gear while roped up, and continued to White Rock Lakes by compass. Thanks for all these fantastic shots. My own have some major gaps that yours fill admirably.

Re: Perfect

When we got out of our tents in the morning, everyone was OOOHing and AHHHing about our gorgeous surroundings, so we all spent some time looking for photos. We figured we had plenty of time to get to WRL, and that there wouldn't be any more storms so soon after the one that postponed the start of our trip, so we felt pretty lazy that morning. Wound up being a big mistake, but at least we got some decent photos.

Hadn't thought of that angle - it seemed like pretty much the opposite at the time! -Bob

Re: You've certainly

Thanks Bo! Hey, I was down your way during the summer of '06 with my wife, who is scarcely a hiker much less a mountaineer. So I didn't get to explore much, but did enjoy the area for the first time since I was six years old. Spent one day in Bryce and another in Zion before moving on to GC. What a great place - southern Utah. Much enjoyed! But as you can see I also love my North Cascades! -Bob

Re: You've certainly

Well...we're sort of in a same deal. My wife isn't much of a hiker as well. I live (live) to get out. Check out my and Tanyas (my hiking partner) website..www.zionnational-park.com if you might get in the area in the future? We have listed hundreds? of hikes down here!...Keep up your great work....it's an inspiration to all!

Re: You've certainly

I know what you mean - I live to get out, and I have so many goals, none of which have anything to do with working, but all of which require far more time and money than I have available! And what's worse - I'm getting OLD!!

Re: You've certainly

Old has to be a state of mind? Doesn't it? You're old when your mind and body just don't jibe?

Money? Well...it certainly is like the difference between a plastic cup and a fine china cup, but life is like the tea that is poured into each. Is there a difference in the taste? Percieved as successful or a bum, but yes it's important to pay the mortgage. (barring any comments on the recent polycarbonate rants).

Re: You've certainly

There are indeed options in life, and some folks are willing to not keep the commitments they make when they're young. But I wasn't willing to do that, so ya do what ya gotta do I guess, which for me means not living like I would without those encumberances...

Re: You've certainly

And I totally respect your choice to be sure. Me......I drink from a "plastic" cup! I just hope that when we (Tanya and I) get a book published, the income will fill the tank on my Pathfinder once every 2 weeks so that I can explore some more. Eventually I hope to offset that expense completely when I can purchase a diesel truck and convert to "Veg and Bio" fuel.
