A Beast
This one is a beast from every trail and direction. I have nearly hit the summit from several and reached it along the ridge from Pfeifferhorn. That ridge is a great time, but I'd try this peak in winter to avoid the hours of sweaty bouldering.

White Baldy
We started at White Pine trail and I loved that trail. From the lake the rocks were, um, tiring. It took awhile to get to the top and I was so happy to finally make it. We enjoyed the view for way too long and suddenly realized we were looking at the most amazing sunset. Sunset? Crap! After a rush down to Red Pine lake before total dark, we were lucky to borrow a flashlight and make it home with no falls. New rule for me, bring a light.

Up White Pine, Down Red Pine in the dark
We ran and hiked up White Pine trail to just above the lake and then left the trail as soon as we saw the lake and headed up for the ridge. It only took us 90 minutes to get to the lake, but the scramble from there to the summit took us nearly 2 1/2 hours due to some bad lines on the way up. I think we stayed on the North side of the ridge too long and got stuck on very slow terrain with lots of exposure sections.
We didn't realize we were out of light for some reason and ended up going down Red Pine and made it through the massive boulder fields in just over an hour down to Upper Red Pine lake just as it got dark. Luckily we were able to borrow a flashlight from some guys that were camping---saved our lives. The trek down in the dark would've been precarious. Happy to be back in one piece. Had a great time!

White Baldy
6/2/2013 Via Red Pine to the Pfeifferhorn and traversed to White Baldy. Climbed with the WMC on a fantastic day. Great consolidated snow up to the Pfeifferhorn, and very nice soft snow to glissade off of the top of White Baldy. We were able to glissade the 1300 feet of vertical to upper Red Pine Lake in two long shots. And then another great glissade to Red Pine Lake.
9/23/2012 Came up Red Pine to the Pfeifferhorn and then traversed over to White Baldy. Very fun little section of ridge between the two. Very windy, it looked like it could storm at anytime or I would have liked to continue on this ridge to Red Baldy. Descended back to Red Pine Lake.
7/15/2012 Climbed White Baldy via Red Pine Lake w/ WMC.
As I climbed up to the ridge and saw the true summit, I noticed some rain clouds approaching but figured I had enough time to make it. Several steps away from the summit I heard something that sounded like a rattlesnake. I took another step and there were more buzzing sounds and I could feel static in my boots and on the rocks. I went back down during light rain and thunderstorms as fast as I could.

Traverse from Pfeiff
Came across after hiking Pfeifferhorn. Probably could have picked better lines through the boulders on the West side but still made it fine. Stumbled on a goat; surprised that he let me get that close, I certainly wasn't being quiet.
Had planned on continuing to Red Baldy but had to abort due to time constraints. Fun glissading down to the Red Pine lakes.

Not the East Face
Approached the East Face with dunsum intending to climb a nice mixed rock and snow/ice route up the steep stuff. Awful sugar snow made it almost impossible to get established on the face, so we traversed off left after a couple of hundred feet and summited via the more mellow ridge.

Interesting peak
11/7/2009 Challenging hike due to conditions as the snow obscured the BIG holes between the gigantic boulders in the vicinity of Upper Red Pine Lake.
10/5/2003 With Joyce H.
5/21/2003 It's much better to do this one in the spring than fall.
6/3/2000 Should have had crampons but didn't.

Silver Lake trail to east ridge.
A long day hike from Silver Lake Flat. Saw lots of wildlife, a moose, deer, wild grouse, beavers and a mountain goat. There is a nice spring still running this late in the year just above Silver Lake Glance to drink from on the way up and back. An exciting and challenging scramble from the east ridge. The only sketchy section being a very steep chute of loose rock and dirt near the top of the east ridge before the route veers northerly towards the true summit.
Went up the E Ridge with a goodly amount of snow remaining from 9800' on up in White Pine basin. I descended the NW face through a maze of large boulders until finding several hundred feet of snow to glissade.

Ski mountaineering: North Ridge
Summited as part of an arduous ski mountaineering day. Started from White Pine TR at 8:15, skied into White Pine fork and trended NW until I switchbacked up to the N Ridge. Eventually the skis came off and I booted it up the ridge to the summit.
Was socked in the whole day, causing me to accidentally descend a ridgeline to the south rather than the east...turned into a seven-hour epic with a bonus ascent of Red Baldy.

Mutiple routes and climbs
I usually do this peak in combination with Red Baldy, I've done well over a dozen climbs. I have lead a hike for the WMC called Red White Red White, about 10 times going up Red Pine to White Baldy, to Red Baldy and Down White Pine. I also have a White Red Silver Combo, climbing the South West Ridge via the Silver Flats area traversing to Red and the descending past Silver Glance and Silver Lakes, I've done that route twice.
