Rough 4WD road up to the Mine in the dark, but not hiccups along the way. Got a quick start up the mountain to Edwards, then stuck, close to the ridgeline to get McClellan. No easy path back to Edwards, so I cut across the basin towards a glacier and made way up the south side of that to rejoin the "trail" back to the saddle between Edwards and Argentine. Followed some mountain goats up to Argentine (though, the path they chose to follow was harder than mine). From there, the cloud were looking a little scary, but weather reports told me I had a few more hours. I picked up the pace and crossed the gap over to Wilcox. Stick close to the ridgeline—there's remnants of a social trail there that will protect your ankles a bit more and protect the tundra. Summitted Wilcox and booked it back to the saddle to then follow a social trail down into the basin. However, the trail disappeared and I had to bushwhack back to the road to follow it back to the mine. If using my GPS to do the same, I recommend almost always sticking to the ridgeline between these mountains. Whenever I strayed away, I found myself coming back.

Grays, Edwards, McClellan, Ganley,
Long ride. Descent from this ridge route into Stevens Gulch is sketchy and unrealistic, so watch the weather. After Ganley summit, I followed the ridge west awhile until I could descend the steep slopes (to the road to Grays lot), which are intermittently cliffed out. Grays, Edwards, McClellan, Ganley, IPA.
Came over from Edwards. Descended the south east side of McClellan back to Waldorf.

From Mount Edwards
The third peak of the day with my wife. We began hiking off the summit to the road, but decided to turn back and take the gulch down Edwards. It proved to be quite efficient and brought us down near our vehicle at the mine.

Just a day to get above treeline. Unfortunately, no way to get above the smoke from possibly the worst fire season in recorded history in the West. :(

Edwards and McClellan from Waldorf Mine
We enjoyed an absolutely beautiful day on Edwards and McClellan. Heck, I even enjoyed the drive up to the mine in the Jeep! We had a blue-bird day with barely a cloud in a sky and enjoyed 1,100 of glissading on the descent.

McClellan and Edwards
After a failed attempt on Edwards several years ago, it was time to try again. This time I was successful. Started at the old Waldorf Mill. While I was on the summit of Edwards by myself, I could look down on the Grays Peak trail and see a multitude of people hiking up Grays. Good to be by myself. On the way down I hit McClellan Mountain.

After Edwards
Nice little bonus after hiking to Edwards. I dropped below the ridge to check out some of the scrambling conditions-- steep and loose but enough fun to be worth the extra effort.

Did McClellan as the first of 5 peaks on the day from Waldorf Mine, finishing on Otter. Did this hike right before a big storm, probably the last snow free day of the year in the Front Range.

Waldorf Mine
It started as a pleasant day. Once on top of Edwards the weather started getting dark to the west behind Grays. Got back to the truck via the loop over McClellan Mountain. The 4x4 trip in was an added adventure.
