Haliku
OfflineA Little About Me
A NOTE FROM THE SP STAFF
On Saturday, November 20, 2010, Chris Pruchnic (Haliku) lost his life in an ice-climbing accident in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park.
Haliku was a valued contributor to SP, but his worth went well beyond the pages he created. As is obvious in forum threads regarding his tragic death, Haliku was widely loved and respected for his character, his generosity, and his knowledge. His loss is a heavy blow to both those who knew him in real life and those who knew him only on SP. The SP staff sends its deepest condolences to his family and friends. We know that no words can heal this loss but hope that what was great about Haliku and his life will eventually soften the pain and inspire those that knew him.
This profile page will remain in honor of Haliku. Friends of his who wish to pay a short tribute to him here are encouraged to contact the staff.
Hours slide by like minutes. The accumulated clutter of day-to-day existence – the lapses of conscience, the unpaid bills, the bungled opportunities, the dust under the couch, the inescapable prison of your genes – all of it is temporarily forgotten, crowded from your thoughts by an overpowering clarity of purpose by the seriousness of the
task at hand.

FROM HALIKU'S FRIENDS:
He always was willing to give a hand or advice to anyone in anyway that
he could, and he always wanted to share his joy of climbing and exploring
other cultures with his friends and fellow climbers. The climbing community
and the world needs more people like Chris, not less, which makes the
tragedy of his early parting so much more difficult to accept. He will live
on in our hearts and memories. He and I had been talking about climbing
Kilimanjaro soon, and someday when I stand atop that peak I will call
Chris' name to honor my friend. --chicagotransplant
/////////////////////Chris was a dear friend who I will remember fondly and miss greatly –
especially when heading to the mountains. Chris had a friendly demeanor
and generosity that touched those lucky enough to know him. He was quick
to greet others on the mountain and give a hand when needed. I am grateful
to have met Chris and privileged to have had many amazing adventures with
him. -- rkymtn
