A Beautiful Night on Mount Whitney

A Beautiful Night on Mount Whitney

Taken December 8, 2011 at Upper Boyscout Lake on the way to Mount Whitney. A 60 second shutter speed was used to capture this, the moon light made this photograph possible.

There's No Question

This is the best photograph from our entire trip. I can see the movement of the stars. That's my headlamp in there!

Re: There's No Question

Thanks Gimpilator. The night at Upper Boyscout lake was quite lovely with the moon light. I appreciate your light in the tent.

Beautiful Image

Definitely a great photo! Reminds me of one I shot of my son a few years back at Big Bend. --mark d.

Re: Beautiful Image

Thanks Mark. I saw the tent lit up and had a moment to spare, so I figured I would try and get a photo of the tent at night for good memories.

Your best photo...

Josh, you made a giant leap in your photo skills with this photo. This is by far your best photo. I really can't wait to do Whitney now! Moonlight nights are really fantastic aren't they...

Re: Your best photo...

Matt, I've had most of my night photography skills for about 3 years. But in this case I was in the right place at the right time and could finally use what I know to capture this. Anyways, very much appreciate your comment. Whitney was a lot of fun, you should have a good time when you go.

This shot...

would make an epic Christmas card. (Or a good beer commercial.) Nice work!

Re: This shot...

Thanks for the idea, I do like making my own custom cards instead of buying one that someone else made.

Re: BEAUTIFUL

I admit that when seeing many of these kinds of photographs I figured it was about time I would try it myself. I certainly recommend trying a photograph like this, keep in mind you need to use a long shutter speed to make it turn out like this.

Re: wish i was there

I was surprised myself about this. But yes it was quite cold. My camera kept dying on me which I would have to warm it up every picture I took.

Well done!

Great work on this photo... much tougher than a simple point and shoots effort. Looks fantastic!

Re: Well done!

Thanks Mr. Chad. I also used my camera case or a pile of rocks as my tripod. In the future I hope to bring my tripod with me to make it easier to position. But certainly not as easy as pointing and shooting.
