Avalanche down NW Ruth Glacier

Large avalanche from icefall of glacier in Thayer Basin cascading down 6000 ft headwall at the end of the NW fork of the Ruth glacier. Avalanche cloud continued miles down NW Ruth Glacier over approach route.

Thank you for your comment. This avalanche was truly overwhelming in size. It made us wonder what it would have been like if we were on the glacier at the time. Would it just have been blowing ice particles by the time it had traveled the mile and a half to where our track was? We believe we were engulfed by such a cloud at base camp above the glacier in a white-out. Would it have knocked us down? I don't think it would have buried us.
