Approach
On Strawberry Peak's main page there are instructions for traveling to Daniel's Summit Lodge. Once you've arrived, continue south (left) to the General Store. On the left side of the General Store, there is a large, groomed trail that leads west into the forest. Take it.
Route Description
3.5 miles one-way, 1,700 vertical feet
Take the
groomed trail west, approximately 2 miles. At that point, the groomed trail will make a large turn to the south. Separate from the groomed trail and head directly west into the forest. The day after a major snow, you'll probably be breaking your own trail. But if it has been a few days, no doubt you'll find a solid snowmobile track leading the way.
This direction will lead you to point 9,693, which is the east shoulder of Strawberry peak.
You'll know you're there when the forest opens up to a small, open bowl at the base of point 9,693. Hike to the top of this point and you'll get a perfect view west to Strawberry's summit. You'll also get a preview of the awesome view to come. From point 9,693, you can also look south and see Twin Peaks.
On a good powder day, leave early. You'll beat the snowmobile crowds and get some excellent ski turns to yourself.
Essential Gear
Snowshoes or skis in the winter. Maybe some avalanche gear if you plan on venturing to the steepest parts of Strawberry Peak, and the avalanche conditions are at its worst. 99% of the area is avalanche proof.
