A Beautiful Day on Chair Peak

This Trip Report is more of a Eye Candy Report. Enjoy! :-D
It was a Wednesday Morning when we arrived at the Alpental parking lot with semi cloudy views. The weather seemed questionable whether or not it would be a good day to see the surrounding mountains. But as always the adventure and the good company are always more important... but this time I was in for a bonus.

The hike started out as a nice gentle hike though snowy woods and then onto a skier track heading towards the base of Chair Peak. At the base of Chair Peak we put on our snowshoes and start heading around onto the Eastern side of Chair Peak. Originally Zephyr wanted to just check out the high point above Chair Peak, but the pathway we were traveling was too good to pass down.

Once we got onto the ridge we decided to take a break and enjoy the lifting clouds over the mountains while having lunch. My fingers just could not resist capturing the moment.

The slope ahead looked a little steep until we got onto it. Zephyr and I were very excited as we hike along what appeared to be a cornice but was actually a snow ridge that gave a beautiful illusion of one. Looking up on the right of Chair Peak it seemed as though I could get about 800 feet from the summit which is much better than we had anticipated.

The snow then became very wind blown making it a lot easier to travel though the snow. A while later we made it to a high point on the North side of Chair Peak and called it a day. Certainly a good day out.

I can tell...

your trip reports just by looking at the name on the "What's New" page!
Looks like there is LOTS of snow up there still! Down here the snow has nearly completely melted. We will be having a very long backpacking/climbing season here in CO this summer. Nice TR

Re: I can tell...

Still plenty of snow here in Washington. Within the past week it has been melting like crazy but there is still tons of it. I'm excited about Colorado, hope it's not too dry. ;-)

Nah...shouldn't be too dry. It will still be June in the wettest part of Colorado
