Menthosa attempt 1983
My first Himalayan trip. Dave Challis was leader and other members were Barry & Rob White. Sited Camp 1 on Urgos Pass at 5100m. Barry & Rob dropped out with altitude problems having reached around 5250m and then after some bad weather, Dave and I pushed upwards to the upper glacial plateau, via Camp 2 in a crevasse at 5650m and Camp 3 at 6000m. We set out for the summit in good conditions but very low temperatures. I was unable to warm my feet and with the beginnings of frost-bite setting in, we turned back from around 6250m on the crest of the East Ridge.
