A slog with great payoff  Sucess!

Straightforward hike up the old Jeep track but boy is it a sloooog (about 4400' of gain). Beautiful views of the coast and surrounding higher peaks though! Careful on the drive in though, we passed a vehicle at a 45-degree angle on the side of the road - not sure exactly how he got himself into that predicament but it didn't look fun!

Nice one  Sucess!

Headed over to Gables End the first day (poled route from Fyffe) and then bivvied on the top of Mt Fyffe in some trees out of the wind. Nice sunset and sunrises with the odd kea about. Ran into a crew and mountain biker doing some filming up there. Gable down to the col on the way to Gables End is pretty steep scree and rock, even so you can do this whole thing in sandals. 2nd day back down to the car park. There's actually a couple of signed/marked/mapped through hikes in this area including via the summit so backtracking isn't a necessity.

Winter ascent  Sucess!

I had been up to the top in a 4WD on a couple of occasions in summer - to fly down by Paraglider. But then one winter in heavy snow, I ploughed my way up on my own, overnighting in the small hut part way up.

easy climb with great rewards  Sucess!

Stayed at the Mt. Fyffe hut for a night before waking up for sunrise over the Pacific and the summit. Reaaall easy walk up (its graded for horses) with spectacular views of the larger mountains of the Seaward Kaikouras, as well as to Kaikoura itself.
