Book Summary

Stacy Allison became the first American woman to successfully climb Mount Everest. Her success in 1988 was more than a premiere mountaineering accomplishment it marked a turning point in her personal life. Beyond The Limits is the account of her struggles and achievements in the climbing and mountain world and her determination to end an abusive relationship and her marriage. You will climb with her in Yosemite, Zion, on Denali, Ama Dablam and Everest as she realizes her goals and ‘goes beyond her limits.’

"Men climb mountains because they're there.' Allison...did it to see if she could measure up. And as she scales peak after peak...her self esteem soars. Braving the Himalayan death zone, the most violent blizzard in forty years, avalanches, white-outs, and being lost at 26,000 feet, Allison...conquers her own life as she conquers Everest."—Jan Goodwin, author of Caught in the Crossfire .

A good Everest read!
I have read enough female author/climber books to know the real thing when I see it and this is definitely a great one! Stacy Allison writes with a balanced mix of climbing, day to day life stuff and personal angst. And even though there is relationship talk and some pain in her writing you won’t drown in it. I liked her details about climbing Everest; the wind and cold and watching a fellow climber’s mitten flutter down the glacier and stop within grabbing distance, barely! Her account of the last hour or so getting to the top is definitely edge-of-your-seat! And there’s more but you have to read the book.
