Overview
There is a nice nordic ski trail along Animas River from Silverton and going all the way to Eureka, Colorado. It is little long - 8 miles one way, and you can make it shorter if you wish by turning around at any point.The scenery along the river is spectacular, and in Eureka you can see some of the ice climbs, like Stairway to Heaven or Whorehouse Hoses.
