Overview
Halcott Mountain is located in the Halcott Mountain Wild Forest in New York's
Catskill Mountains. The peak barely makes the cut as a
Catskill 3500 Club mountain at about 3537 feet. There is a nice waterfall (Halcott Falls) near the main parking area on Rt 42 in Deep Notch. This mountain is a trail-less peak, meaning there is no maintained trail to the summit. There is a register at the summit to sign into.
Getting There
The most common bushwack route starts from the parking area near Halcott Falls on RT 42 between Bushnellsville and West Kill. (GPS N42 11.070 W74 24.885).
From the parking area ascend in a SW direction up to the ridgeline, then bear south to the summit canister. (GPS N42 10.794 W74 26.248)
Red Tape
No Camping/Fires above 3500ft. Since this is a trail-less mountain please do not mark or cut trails. Hunting is popular here in season Sept-Dec remember to wear orange. Black Bears are active in this area as well.
Camping
Camping is available anywhere 150ft from roads, trails or water sources.
